Joseph Irungu alias Jowie broke down as Lady Justice Grace Nzioka delivered her ruling on the Monica Kimani murder case, finding the gospel artist guilty.
Wearing a black musk and a blue Afrocentric shirt, Jowie bowed his head down while sitting next to Jacque Maribe in a yellow and white suit at the chambers.
As the duo followed Nzioka's hours-long ruling, they waited together patiently until the judge got to the final verdict.
"It is the finding of this court that all this evidence taken cumulatively leads to a strong conclusion that the first accused person murdered the deceased," ruled Nzioka.
"Therefore, it is the finding of this court that the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt all the ingredients of the offence of murder, the death that occurred, the cause of death and the person who committed that offence. It was not a case of homicide, It was unlawful. Therefore I find the first accused person guilty as charged herein of the offence of murder."
Jowie, upon hearing the ruling as the first accused person, could not help but wipe a tear that had slipped from his left eye.
Jacque Maribe on the other hand, who was the second accused, heaved a heavy sigh of relief when her verdict was read.
When the not guilty verdict was delivered, Maribe raised her head, staring at the court roof and closed her eyes for a moment.
As per the ruling, Jowie is set to remain in custody till March 8, for his sentencing while Maribe walked out of the courtroom a free woman.
Reacting to the verdict, Dennis Itumbi lauded the court ruling noting that it had justified his stance to support Maribe.
"Let the record reflect that you have always been innocent. The system failed you and the rogue people who added you in this case just for headlines and creation of a circus should answer and you must not let them walk out of the mess without questions. I have no regrets that I stood by you," Itumbi stated.
After the ruling, Itumbi and Maribe hugged before addressing the press outside the court.
