Police on Wednesday, February 14, apprehended the trio in Elgeyo Marakwet and temporarily detained them at Kaptagat Police Station until 11 am.

The Sub-county Commander Keiyo South Abdullahi Dahir, confirming the arrests, detailed that the trio were transferred to the County Criminal Investigations Officer, Elgeyo Marakwet for further questioning.

"What made us look for the four suspects is the allegation made by the father of the dead, we never had any prior allegation or report," stated the commander, Abdullahi Dahir.

According to the commander, the three were called in for questioning, to shed light on their conversation with Kiptum's father.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the middle-aged men were seen at the back of a police van heading to the Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner's office in Iten where further investigations are expected to be conducted.

A vehicle which the suspects used to access the father's house was also seized, with detectives yet to state whether it would be processed for fingerprints and any other evidence.

Additionally, Kiptum's father, Samson Cheruyoit, positively identified the three suspects after they were arrested.

Cheruyoit had rallied the police to track the trio who he alleged failed to identify themselves after visiting his home at Chepsamo village, Kaptarakwa ward, in Keiyo South Constituency.

The suspicious visit occurred four days before Kiptum's tragic death on Sunday, February 11.

Kiptum and his Rwandan coach, Gervais Hakizimana died on the spot after their car swerved off the road and hit a tree along the Elgeyo Marakwet-Ravine road.

A lady who was with the duo in the car survived but sustained serious injuries.
