Washington DC-based authorities are investigating the death of Walter Nyamato, a Kenyan Police Commissioner, who was found dead at a hotel in the United States on Wednesday, February 14.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, sources privy to the matter explained that Nyamato, who also acted as the personal assistant to Deputy Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow, was among a team of senior officials who had toured the US during the weekend.
Multiple sources who spoke to this publication indicated that the team arrived in Washington on Saturday to attend a security operations seminar. The officials booked various hotels in the State to facilitate their stay.
On Wednesday morning, the commissioner is said to have failed to wake up which triggered alarm amongst his colleagues when he failed to pick up calls.
Our sources indicated that Nyabuto's colleagues went to wake him up but found him non-responsive.
"The cause of the death is not yet known," our sources indicated.
Additionally, the sources confirmed that the US tour was a routine visit aimed at improving security operations across the country.
His family and colleagues mourned him as a dedicated officer who was committed to his work.
"My heart is bleeding! The Nyamato family is mourning! My little brother is no more. Sad to die in your prime years. We had a lot of plans to accomplish this year. God knows what happened. He has the answers. I believe we will meet again," Bernard Nyamato indicated.
"I still can't believe you gone, Walter. I didn't want to post as I did not know whether your family members were notified. It hurts," police officer Sammy Ngare commented through his official social media handles.
US authorities have since launched investigations to establish the cause of Nyamato's death. The police officer's body is expected to be flown back to the country once investigations are completed.
