Transport services were brought to a standstill on Thursday along the Ring Road in Nyalenda, Kisumu County, as an irate mob barricaded the stretch to protest against the killing of two motorcyclists.

The mob, primarily composed of boda boda riders, expressed their outrage by dragging the Subaru car involved in the accident to the roadside before resorting to setting it ablaze.

Police officers, who were on high alert, quickly rushed to the scene to quell the demonstration and restore normalcy in the area.

Adamant in their pursuit, the boda riders, who had turned out in large numbers, overpowered the police even as they insisted on their protests.

Firefighters from the Kisumu County Government arrived at the scene minutes later and put out the fire that had engulfed the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the driver of the car sustained minor injuries from the accident and was swiftly rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Bodies of the deceased were also taken to the same hospital even as police launched investigations to unravel the facts behind the tragic incident.

The death of the two riders occurred just hours after another accident along the Katito-Kendu Bay highway in Nyakach, Kisumu County.

This accident involved a public service matatu and a lorry ferrying sand, resulting in the tragic loss of seven lives and leaving eight others with serious injuries.

Those injured were rushed to the hospital under critical condition with traffic along the road facing heavy disruption before the wreckage of the two vehicles was towed away.

Police officers from Pap Onditi Police Station launched investigations to establish the root cause of the accident.

The police have since appealed to motorists to exercise caution on the roads to curb such incidents.
