A former Administration Police officer stands accused of stabbing his 44-year-old wife and pouring hot water on her while she slept.
The incident reportedly occurred following an argument between the couple. The man subsequently went outside, prompting his wife to seek refuge in her daughter's room to avoid further conflict.
Despite hearing movements while asleep, the wife initially disregarded them. However, she soon became aware of the sound of the door being forcefully broken down around midnight.
"He came into the bedroom and asked me who am I to you," the lady stated adding that she did not respond.
The man, who now works with the Nakuru County Government, poured hot water on her causing major injuries on her back. Later on, he proceeded to stab her in the stomach, inflicting a deep wound that caused her internal organs to spill out.
Fortunately, she managed to escape and ran towards the neighbour's house. However, she collapsed and lost consciousness along the way. Her neighbours promptly took her to the hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Despite the one on the receiving end, her husband is said to have reported that the wife had assaulted him. The man alongside an investigation officer told the victim that she would be arrested and he would seek custody of one of their children.
Additionally, the man is accused of threatening to kill the victim.
According to members of the victim's family, the man usually got violent when he drunk leading to chaos and violence in the household.
Her case was taken up by Usikimye, a non-profit organisation fighting against Gender-Based Violence. The organisation has called for justice to ensure the suspect is held culpable.
"The OCS has agreed to change the investigation officer and we are hoping that justice will finally prevail," read a statement from the organisation.
Cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV) are on the rise with both men and women falling victim. In November 2023, Chief Justice Martha Koome announced that the Judiciary had established a special model court to deal with GBV cases.
"Gender-based violence is a form of resistance to the promotion of Gender Equality and the campaign to end Gender Based discrimination and it must be resisted and fought by all the available tools," she added.
