Kenyans were enraged on Monday morning after a video of a man threatening a taxi driver demanding payment after completing a ride surfaced online.

The taxi driver had discovered the trick the passenger in question had consistently used before to get free trips in Nairobi and its environs.

In the video, the taxi driver was heard demanding his pay after ferrying the passenger from Westlands to an undisclosed location.

However, the passenger blatantly refused to pay and started becoming hostile towards the driver.

In his account of events, the taxi driver narrated that during the material day when he arrived at the destination, he was asked to wait at the gate to allow the passenger to get the money needed to make the payment.

The driver explained that when a few minutes passed and the man still had not returned, he was forced to get into the passenger's home compound to request payment to be completed.

"I have ferried you from Westlands and you do not want to pay. I am not leaving here until you pay me," the driver stated.

When the cab driver showed up at that door, he started filming asking the man to complete the payment after which he would take his leave. However, the passenger retorted insisting that he was not going to pay.

The passenger then asked the driver to leave and warned him of legal consequences if he dared enter his house.

In the video which has since gone viral, the passenger claimed that this was a habit he had developed and had on several occasions swindled other taxi drivers.

Whenever the drivers would request to be paid, he threatened to sue them for 'breaking into' his house.

"This is what I do to drivers, they bring me here and I fail to pay. I also accuse them of robbing me," the passenger retorted.

He further added, "I dare you to enter my house and touch anything and you will end up in jail".

Additionally, the passenger questioned whether the two had a written agreement to prove he had ferried him. He challenged the driver to go ahead and do what he wanted.

While the driver did not set foot in the house, he continued to ask for his money while standing outside the door within the home compound.

The passenger locked the door as the confrontation ensued, leaving the driver facing an uphill task.

Following the incident, Kenyans led by politician Justina Wamae condemned those taking advantage of taxi drivers.

"People should accept their financial status and use public means of transport instead of causing a scene with taxi drivers," Wamae remarked.

Kenyans commended the driver for restraining himself from taking matters into his own hands. They asked him to report the matter to the police station.

"Everyone should respect other individual's jobs, especially the taxi business with the rising cost of fuel," one person commented.
