Management and staff members of a resort located along the Kenyan Coastline have appealed to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Amin to speed up investigations into an attack staged at the facility late last year.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, the hotel's management indicated that none of the perpetrators captured on CCTV instigating the chaos have been arrested.

The representative claimed that the individuals handling the case were contemplating closing the file due to a lack of sufficient evidence to prosecute.

Goons armed with crude weapons attacked the resort in November last year prompting uproar from stakeholders in the industry over their safety.

"It is unfortunate that until now, there is nothing that has been done. No formal arrests were made. No prosecution has been done.  It paints a picture that one can just walk in anywhere and beat up staff and nothing happens, which is a very bad thing," the representative told the press.

"Those people who attacked resort workers and staff, it is important that the government took that matter seriously. We are being told that the file of prosecution is up for closure and they are saying that there is no enough evidence."

The staffers were irked by the lack of action from the government despite assurances from Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.

On November 27 last year, Mutua revealed that the State intended to take stern action against individuals who attacked and injured guests at the establishment.

At the time, he argued that the government had gathered intelligence showing that the goons had been hired by auctioneers eyeing the property.

"I have noted with concern the violence at Pinewood Beach Resort by hired goons. This behaviour by receivers and auctioneers against hotels and restaurants will not be tolerated," the CS stated.

"Stern action is being taken. Upholding the law and civility is key to encouraging and not deterring visitors."

Footage released shortly after the attack showed goons trying to cut the locks at the gate before proceeding to throw stones inside the facility. The incident triggered uproar from hospitality industry workers.
