Sirisia MP John Waluke on Tuesday led his constituents in raiding the Malakisi Cotton Ginnery during which he demanded the resignation of the facility's manager.

The MP and his constituents alleged that the manager unlawfully sold off obsolete machines as scrap metal.

Speaking to journalists at the factory, the MP insisted that managers who engaged in the sale of the machines would not be allowed to set foot in the factory.

"Starting from today, after they leave this gate they will not be allowed to set foot in this compound tomorrow,” cautioned Waluke.

Members of the public were seen at the factory’s management office, chanting that the manager must go despite the attempts by law enforcement officers to get them to back down.

The factory's management had earlier stated that they had not received disbursement of funds from the government earlier promised to them, prompting their decision to sell the scrap metal.

According to the managers, funds raised from the sale were expected to purchase up-to-date machinery to replace the dilapidated ones.

They also alleged that the factory had not received funding from the government in fourty years, which culminated in the equipment becoming obsolete.

However, the MP has alleged that a plan in place is to revive the factory, an event which he claimed that President William Ruto will attend.

He also noted that he had instructed the Officer in Charge of the Station (OCS) and the police officers in the region to protect the factory.

“I have given this order as the MP, I have instructed the OCS and the police officers from this area to protect this property, and the OCS has heard me,” instructed Waluke

Previously the government had announced plans to revive factories in the Western region in a bid to improve the cotton processing industry.
