Two brothers based in Narok County on Friday, March 22, died by suicide after their father gave his entire wealth to his first wife.

According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the two brothers aged 17 and 19 years respectively were surprised after their father decided to take back his first wife after they had divorced many years ago.

This enraged the two brothers who belonged to the second wife and sought to become heirs of the property.

The father and first wife made amends following the death of their first-born son who was buried on March 20, 2024.

Following the burial, the father decided to divide his property and declared his first wife as the rightful heir.

However, disgruntled with this decision, the two brothers issued threats indicating they would cause harm to the family.

Concerned for their safety, the family members fled their home, leaving the two brothers behind. The brothers then informed villagers that they had made arrangements to take their own lives, a statement initially not taken seriously by the residents.

Subsequently, the two brothers used pieces of rope to hang themselves in their homestead.

Upon discovery of the bodies by residents, the police officers from Tendwet Police Station were notified.

They promptly visited the scene, documented the situation, and arranged for the bodies to be transported to Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary, where they await postmortem examination.

According to the Law of Succession (Amendment) Act 2021 states that in the situation of polygamous families, the first wife's contribution is taken into account to avoid the wives receiving an equal share.

The law also provides for spouses to be declared rightful heirs to the property ahead of relatives.
