Kirinyaga Women Representative Njeri Maina has criticised cartels behind the sale of fake fertilisers in the country, claiming they are aiming to derail Kenya Kwanza’s agenda and plan.

Speaking during an event in Kisii on Saturday, March 23, Njeri condemned the sale, accusing the government critics of running the cartels.

“People are selling fake fertilizers and they want to ruin the government’s name. They thought we can’t support farmers to produce food,” she stated.

“Those people who were claiming the fertilizers will not work have come together as cartels to sell the fake fertilizers.”

The legislator further called on President William Ruto to crack down on the cartels, who were interfering with the government’s plan to provide food security for Kenyans.

“The president said there are three options. I urger the president to deal with them because we won’t watch as people derail our plans,” she added.

On matters concerning health and the ongoing nationwide doctors' strike, Njeri cautioned against doctors misusing taxpayer funds by establishing parallel private clinics. She also implored health workers to resume their duties, highlighting the risks the strike posed to people's lives.

“We know there are doctors employed in public hospitals and instead of serving patients they are operating private hospitals,” she noted.

“If someone wants to run their clinic, they should quit and focus on their private clinics.”

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa speaking during a burial ceremony at Mumias dismissed the allegations that detectives in Kakamega confiscated fake fertilizer.

Barasa asserted the rumours were being spread by people seeking to tarnish his name.

“Retrogressive statements by the naysayers on our farm inputs and blackmail on social media drama won't stop our development agenda for the people of Kakamega County,” Barasa stated.
