Kakamega Governor, Fernades Barasa on Sunday appealed to the public to provide information to the police over the mysterious killing of two guards.

The Governor was referring to a Saturday night incident that saw the killing of two guards and their bodies dumped at Koyonzo market in Matungu, Kakamega town.

“I vehemently condemn this incident and implore security apparatus to expeditiously conduct thorough investigations, apprehend and ensure the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice, stated the Governor.

Additionally, the Governor appealed to members of the public who might know what transpired or how to find the unknown assailants to volunteer the information to the police.

“I call upon anyone with leads that may assist in unraveling the whereabouts of the culprits, to volunteer such information to the nearest police station,” stated Governor Barasa.

He also requested the residents to remain calm as investigations into the incident are carried out.

“Residents and members of the public should refrain from taking the law into their hands, but instead remain calm and peaceful and allow government agencies to take appropriate actions.”

However, despite the governor’s appeal for calm to the public, residents of the area engaged the police in running battles as they staged protests in the town.

The residents are demanding the reassignment of police officers attached the nearby police station which is a few metres away from the market.

They are accusing the police of colluding with the criminals behind rising insecurity in the area.
