A Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officer and coach collapsed and died during a training session on Saturday evening.
It was reported that the officer, Daniel Bor, who was also a team coach for the DCI volleyball team was among other trainees at the Magadi General Service Unit’s National Police College - Magadi Field Campus.
He is said to have been moved to a dispensary within the camp for treatment before being moved to the Magadi Tata Hospital where he lost his life.
The officer is said to have suffered a heart stroke based on the medical report, however, the cause of death is yet to be determined.
Bor was in a match with his colleagues at a hilly terrain within the training excursion.
“On behalf of the KVF NEC, KVF Council, the volleyball community, and myself, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to Daniel Bor's family and the DCI Volleyball Club, mourned the President of the Kenya Volleyball Federation, Charles Nyaberi.
His body has since been moved to the Kenyatta University Hospital pending an autopsy.
The DCI officer was part of a contingent of 513 other officers who were set to be promoted within the DCI ranks and were since undergoing the crush programme.
His colleagues stated that the incident left them in shock, but mourned the fallen officer as dedicated and committed.
This comes even as the country mourns several law enforcement officers who passed on in the line of duty. On March 25, 1 officer was swept away by floods while rescuing business people in the Nairobi City Centre.
Additionally, another DCI officer was on February 27 stabbed to death in Kisumu while on their way home by a suspected gang.
The officer succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referal Hospital (JOOTRH).
