The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Monday, April 1 vowed to take action against the crew of a private minibus taxi caught on camera being driven recklessly.
According to the video which sparked uproar among motorists, rowdy passengers were seen hanging on the vehicle's windows.
The video also depicted the vehicle swaying from side to side at night, endangering the lives of other motorists on the road.
“In a split second, a catastrophic incident could occur as a result of such behaviour. The driver risked his life, that of his passengers and other road users,” stated NTSA.
NTSA also condemned the driver and the passengers who were seen praising the driver whenever he pulled off the risky moves.
“Passengers cheering on reckless drivers endanger their own lives. We will take action against the crew of this vehicle,” explained NTSA
The video was recorded and shared by concerned motorists who in turn shared it with NTSA.
However, by the time of publishing this article, it was not clear if authorities had arrested the driver in question and his fellow crew members.
NTSA officers have been actively cracking down on vehicles and motorists violating traffic laws and regulations, especially during the Easter Season.
On Sunday, March 31, several passengers travelling in a Super Metro along Thika Road were arrested after boarding the PSV despite it being full to capacity.
The passengers are expected to be charged with violating traffic rules.
Further, the Authority also arrested several drunk drivers in a crackdown conducted on the night of March 30 along Kiambu Road.
