Ruto Flies Out for State Visit to Ghana and Guinea-Bissau

President William Ruto has departed the country for a state and official visit to two countries.

According to a statement released by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, Ruto will be on a two-day state visit to Ghana and later fly to Guinea-Bissau.

In Ghana, the President is expected to engage with his counterpart Nana Akufo-Addo on various trade deals.

Key areas of engagement will be agriculture, manufacturing, and technology transfer, among other sectors.

The duo is also expected to hold discussions on the climate crisis and Ghana's support for implementing the African Leaders Nairobi Declaration on Climate Change.

"In Ghana, President Ruto will emphasize the importance of collaborative efforts to strengthen and consolidate democratic governance in Africa. He will also visit the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) headquarters in Accra, with a focus on boosting Kenyan tea and leather exports to Ghana.

"This effort will be supported by Memorandums of Understanding between private and public sector entities, aimed at improving trade between Kenya and Ghana under the AfCFTA," read the statement in part.

Later on, the Head of State is expected to visit Guinea-Bissau on an official visit.

"The Head of State will also address the Ghana-Kenya Business Forum to explore investment and trade opportunities across various sectors. 

"Additionally, as the African Union Champion for Institutional Reform and Chair of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change, President Ruto will advocate for transforming the African Union into a leading force for continental unity and economic revitalization, engaging other regions worldwide," State House added.

However, State House did not detail the exact days Ruto will be spending in Guinea-Bissau.

Notably, prior to the visit, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi left the country to prepare for Ruto's visit. He indicated that the visit was crucial adding that Kenya was set to benefit from numerous trade deals which will centre on agriculture.
