A Subaru belonging to the Meru County Deputy Speaker Mwenda Ali has been destroyed after bursting into flames along the Embu-Meru Highway on Tuesday, April 2.

Reports indicate that the car went up in flames after a head-on collision with a Toyota Hilux near the Gatunduri bridge.

In videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the vehicle was burning on the side of the road. It had been destroyed as other motorists stared in awe. The other vehicle had also veered off the road with damages on the bonnet.

However, the flames had engulfed the air and some parts of the car were on the road making it difficult for some motorists on the two-lane road.

Luckily, it was less busy and the motorists used one of the lanes to go about their businesses. None of them stopped to assess the scene but locals were seen rushing to rescue anyone who was injured.

The Deputy Speaker is reportedly unhurt with members of the county wishing him a quick recovery.

The Igembe East ward Member of County Assembly Murithi Mutiria joined Meru residents to wish Ali a quick recovery.

"Gracious Lord hear us and protect the Deputy Speaker. Father protect him with your precious blood," he wrote.

According to some of the residents, the area where the cars collided was a known black spot and several people had lost their lives.

The locals have called upon the relevant authorities to put measures to avoid more accidents at the spot. They asked the Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) to erect bumps to slow down the motorists.

Furthermore, motorists were advised to take caution while on the road to prevent such accidents and the loss of lives.

Also, the different bodies were urged to install speed monitoring cameras and fix the potholes that make vehicles lose control.

"What the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and traffic department ought to do is to install speed and monitoring cameras on all major roads that can fine an errant driver automatically," one person commented.
