The government of the United Kingdom has issued a travel advisory on Kenya, with its residents warned against visiting five areas in Kenya.

In an alert sent out on Friday, March 5, the UK noted that the advisory was issued as a cautionary for insecurity and terror-related activities.

The areas highlighted were the Kenya-Somalia border, Eastern Garissa, Mandera, Lamu County and Tana River.

Therefore, UK residents in Kenya were advised against non-essential travel to the five areas highlighted in the advisory.

"FCDO advises against all but essential travel to areas within 60km of Kenya’s border with Somalia. FCDO also advises against all but essential travel to areas of Tana River County north of the Tana River, up to 20km northwest of the A3.

"FCDO advises against all but essential travel to within 15km of the coast between the Tana River and the Galana (Athi-Galana-Sabaki) River," read the advisory in part.

In Lamu County, the UK government excluded Lamu Island and Manda Island.

Notably, the advisory by the UK came hours after Australia issued a similar advisory for its citizens living in Kenya and those planning to travel to Kenya.

In the advisory, Aussies were against any travel to Wajir, Madera, and Garissa counties.

On the other hand, the Embassy of the United States also cautioned Americans living in Kenya over insecurity in residential estates in Nairobi.

The Embassy noted that there had been rising cases of insecurity in the estates.

"There are reports of increased criminal activity in residential areas of Nairobi.  Incidents include crimes of opportunity such as purse and phone snatching," read the advisory in part.
