Ababu Namwamba Barred From Acting as Labour Party of Kenya Leader

Budalangi Member of Parliament (MP) Ababu Namwamba has once again been barred from representing the Labour Party of Kenya (LPK) just a week after endorsing President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal on Friday issued a temporary order blocking Namwamba from acting on behalf of LPK.

The Tribunal gave the order for a second time following a case filed by one of the party members challenging the membership of the MP in LPK.

Further, the tribunal directed that the Namwamba be served with papers concerning the case which is still pending determination and will be heard on March 28.

“It is hereby ordered that an interim order do and is hereby issued restraining Mr Namwamba from acting or purporting to act and representing himself or holding out as a member of LPK pending the hearing and determination of this application,” ruled the Tribunal members.

The petitioner identified as Zaccheus Wangila had filed the case claiming that Namwamba was still in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) hence, not a bonafide member of LPK.

He argued that Nambwamba should be stopped from acting as party leader which he has been doing since quitting as ODM Secretary General in 2016.

A week ago, the Budalangi legislator, while acting as the LPK chief, led the party in endorsing Kenyatta adding that they would campaign in support of his re-election.
