Action Taken Against Police Officer for Taking Nude Pictures of Student Found with Bhang

A police officer who took pictures humiliating pictures of a high school girl, arrested for possession of bhang has been sent home.

The pictures exposed the teenage suspect's private parts by showing her chest and lower body.

News of high school students having being caught allegedly with drugs and participating in public sex while in a bus took the nation by storm, barely a week ago, leaving many in shock.

Pictures of the girl, said to have been in the bus started circulating on social media, much to the outrage of Kenyans who decried the abuse of the student's rights.

Perhaps even more disgusting, was the fact that apart from grossly subjecting the girl to humiliation, there was a police woman posing next to the girl -a clear indication that the picture was taken by police officers or in the presence of police officers.

Concerns and complains were lodged, sparking public conversation around the possibility of the photos causing deep psychological torture to the girl.

The Independent Medico-Legal Unit Executive Director Peter Kiama wrote a letter to Independent Police Oversight Authority, condemning the incident which he described as unprofessional and unethical.

While pointing out that the officer contravened article 53 (1) and (2) of the Constitution that is meant to protect children’s rights, Kiama called for not only disciplinary but criminal proceedings against her.

Seemingly bowing to increasing pressure from various quarters, Inspector General Joseph Boinnet released a statement on Saturday, saying the officer who took the pictures had been interdicted.

"We are considering taking disciplinary action on the officer especially for distributing the photos on social media after completion of investigations,”the statement said in part.
