Two politicians from the ODM party who got into a physical fight in front of CORD leader Raila Odinga on Sunday now risk being arrested.
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma and Washington Ogaga, who has vowed to dethrone Kaluma, have been ordered by the police to record statements within 24 hours failure to which they will be arrested.
County Police Commandant John Omusanga and Criminal Investigations Officer Michael Mugo said that the leaders were in breach of the law.
“We investigated the matter and concluded that the two politicians should record statements immediately with the police or they be arrested,” Omusanga said.
The duo exchanged kicks and blows at Odinga's rally over the weekend at Homa Bay stadium.
The scuffle erupted when supporters of Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti and Kasipul-Kabondo MP Oyugi Magwanga began to force their way to the dais at a local stadium.
Awiti's supporters shouted that he must be re-elected while those of Magwanga, who has already declared an interest in the Governor's seat, said the incumbent Governor must go home.
While the supporters were chanting slogans, an argument ensued between Awiti and the legislator before they descended on each other with kicks and blows.
Matters escalated when Kaluma engaged his political rival Ogaga, in what has come to be described as an embarrassing physical battle.
The two have been sharply condemned with the Orange Party highlighting that those who caused chaos will be punished.
“We are going to summon those who caused chaos in the Homa Bay rally and punish them,” ODM's Chief Executive Officer Oduor Ong’wen disclosed.
Kakamega Senator Bonni Khalwale castigated the Homa Bay Town legislator noting: "Even if you were to win such a contest, it wouldn't by itself help you clinch the MP seat. Ujinga mtupu (complete stupidity)."
