Ambassador Ali Chirau Mwakwere Leaves Raila's ODM Party Joins Kalonzo's Wiper Movement

Ambassador Ali Chirau Mwakwere has dealt ODM leader Raila Odinga a blow after opting to join the Wiper Party led by Kalonzo Musyoka.

Addressing the media on Thursday, Mwakwere stated that Wiper was the best party as he seeks to become the next Kwale Governor.

“I have joined Wiper Party because is the most suitable,” he stated.

It was expected that Mwakwere, who ditched the Jubilee Party, would join the Orange Party after he held a meeting with Odinga and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.

Interestingly, Kwale ODM vice chairperson Nicholas Zani had warned party officials not to give Mwakwere a direct ticket in his quest for the gubernatorial seat.

“We are very happy that Mwakwere has joined ODM because it is a clear indication that ODM is the party to beat in Kwale, but when it comes to the gubernatorial race he will not have an easy run,” Mr Zani stated.

During the burial of the late Kwale Senator, Boy Juma Boy, Joho was expected to welcome the Ambassador to the Orange party but the plan was postponed due to unexplained reasons.

In 2013, Mwakwere vied for the Kwale Governor’s seat on a URP ticket but lost to incumbent Salim Mvurya who will now defend his seat on a Jubilee ticket.
