Amani National Congress (ANC) leaders on Thursday sent out a stern warning to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga accusing him of meddling with their party.
The leaders from the Western region criticised the Opposition leaders asking him to concentrate on his party affairs and stay clear of ANC failure to which he would face unspecified actions.
They expressed concern in Odinga's statement that the demonstrations in witnessed earlier in the week in Kakamega had been planned by the government through the National Intelligence Service (NIS) in order to disorganise Opposition strongholds.
The ANC officials dismissed remarks stating that the party organised the demonstrations to protest a leaked report which indicated that their leader, Musalia Mudavadi, would be made the National Super Alliance (NASA) Chief Minister and not flag bearer.
Led by Western regional coordinator, Major Malala, they warned Odinga to concentrate on ODM which they claimed had enough problems and "leave ANC matters to its owners”.
“Why does Raila imagine no Luhya can do anything on his own? Does it mean he must print even placards for us, and if it is not him, it is the NIS? Soon they will tell us our wives have been impregnated by NIS,” Malala stated.
ANC Bungoma chairman Soita Waliaula, on his part, claimed that the ODM leader had been using propaganda against Luhya leaders whenever they sought high office.
“It is not surprising ODM imagines Raila can get between 70 and 80 percent of Western votes without the assistance of Mudavadi and Wetang’ula,” he stated.
Speaking at the same time, Kakamega chairman Julius Arunga cautioned Odinga to "stop behaving as though he owns NASA" and respect his co-principals.
“When we started the ANC journey, we were focussed on the ballot and there is nothing wrong when we say Mudavadi must be the NASA flagbearer,” Arunga stated.
