Another Nairobi Woman Caught Planning to Kill Husband

A Nairobi woman was on Monday arraigned in court for allegedly plotting to kill her estranged husband.

38-year old Monica Kalondu Wambua was charged alongside one Pappias Karinga Mureithi, a family friend, over claims that they hired three men to kill Mr Eric Murigu, a businessman in Nairobi and Lamu.

The accused, however, denied the charges and were released on a Sh1 Million both with a surety of the same or Sh500 Million cash bail. The case will be heard on July 14.

Ms Kalondu and her co-accused had reportedly planned the death of Mr Murigu and even envisaged how they would allocate themselves properties of the deceased.

Mr Mureithi had hoped to inherit the businessman's Land Cruiser V8,  while the would-be killers were to walk away with a cool Sh1 Million.

The plot was, however, sabotaged when two of the hired killers spilt the beans and revealed to Mr Murigu that his estranged wife had hired them to kill him.

The businessman then reported the matter to the police who then gave the would-be hit men recorders to meet Monica and Mureithi.

The accused had allegedly held several meetings in Karen and Umoja estate where the hit men reside.

Confirming the incident, Karen head of DCI Kenneth Njoroge said they had obtained enough evidence to charge the two suspects with conspiracy to kill.

“The would-be hit men have agreed to stand in as witnesses and we intend to prefer the charges of conspiracy to kill contrary to section 234 of the Penal Code,” said Njoroge.

Monica and Murigu are said to have separated last year after being married for 15 years and they both have two sons.

On Thursday last week, two siblings were arrested in Nairobi's Buruburu estate on suspicion of planning the murder of a Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) official.

Those nabbed included the KAA official's ex-wife and her sister who were reportedly conspiring to commit the offence with the help of two male suspects.
