Assistant Chief Arrested for Stabbing Man to Death

The assistant chief of Omoenga Sub Location in Kisii County has been detained by police following allegations of having killed a boda boda operator.

The suspect- Nelson Omwoyo is said to have committed the crime on Sunday night before fleeing the scene of crime.

The two are said to have known each other as Omwoyo had used the transport services of the said boda boda operator.

The murder took place at a widow's home in the area.

According to locals, the assistant chief and the widow had been having an affair which had led to the woman's husband to commit suicide, a while back.

Reports indicate that on the fateful night, the deceased, 25-year-old William Memba Getange managed to tell some people- including his wife that the assistant chief and another man had stabbed him.

He later succumbed to the multiple stab wounds and a blunt object injury on his head.

Speaking to The Standard, a source revealed that the two had not been on friendly terms- prior to the murder.

This, according to the source had been as a result of the deceased allegedly disclosing the affair between Omwoyo and the widow to the area chief after he had carried the government official to the home.

Omwoyo is said to have gotten so angry that he threatened Memba.

An official conclusion on the allegations has however not been reached.

After being in hiding since Sunday, Omwoyo sneaked back to the area on Tuesday when administration police arrested him and handed him over to the regular police.

He is being held at Rioma Police in Kitutu Chache North Sub County.

The widow is also in police custody to assist with investigations.
