Atwoli Expresses Disappointment Over Missing Obama State Dinner

Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has voiced his disappointment over missing the press dinner organized in honor of US President Barack Obama.

The labor leader faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta for failing to include COTU representation in the state dinner.

He pointed out that the president paid a glowing tribute to the first leader of labor movements in Kenya -the late Tom Mboya- but did not have anyone from the union at the function.

According to The Star, Atwoli described himself as the most celebrated labor leader in Africa and was therefore surprised at the missing invitation.

In a letter addressed to the president and dated July 27, Atwoli explained that he was raising the matter in an official rather than a personal capacity.

The dinner took place at Nairobi State House on Saturday, during Obama's visit to Kenya.

The US president had come into the country to co-host the Global Entrepreneurship Summit alongside President Kenyatta.

The two presidents also held bilateral talks in a closed door meeting.
