Bahati High School Ordered to Re-admit Boy Expelled Over Satanic Drawings

Nakuru County Director of Education Isaac Atebehas had ordered the immediate readmission of a Form Four student at Bahati High School who had been expelled for making satanic drawings.

Ian Njenga Mwaura was excluded from the institution on February 13 following queer drawings he has been making.

In a letter, the Christian-based school noted that the teenager could be aligned to a cult. The institution also accused the boy of recruiting other students to join his alleged faith.

"He has drawings which are suggestive that he is owing allegiance to some faith. He drew a symbol of a scorpion on another boy’s shirt. This is a sign of recruiting other students," the letter read in part.

The high school advised Ian parents to take him for counselling and transfer him to a day school where they can keep a keen eye on him.

However, the student dismissed the allegations highlighting that his love for art was what drove him to draw and not any demonic faith.

"I have several drawings which I draw inspiration from and drawings from other artists in the streets. I have always loved drawing especially during my free time," Ian was quoted by a local daily.

His mother, Nancy, stated that the school had frustrated his son who is preparing to sit for KCSE exams later in the year

The school's Principal Patrick Ombok maintained that the drawing made by Ian could not be condoned in the school.

"We have so many things within the school that Ian could have drawn inspiration from like cows or even portraits of other students. But drawing suggestive things like snakes and scorpions is not condoned in this school," Ombok said.

Atheists in Kenya threatened to sue the school for expelling the boy stating that: "It is unfortunate that a school in Kenya, in this day and age, would expel a student who is simply exploring various artistic themes instead of growing and nurturing this talent. You are negating the very reason for which educations reforms in the country are being undertaken."
