Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi and 2 MPs Defeated in Jubilee Nominations

Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi on Tuesday suffered a humiliating defeat in the Jubilee party nominations held on Monday.

The Governor was defeated by his close rival Stanley Kiptis who emerged victorious in almost all polling centres in the county.

Preliminary results from Baringo Central only indicated that Governor Cheboi got 4,964 votes against his opponent Stanley Kiptis who garnered 13,805 votes.

Baringo Central Member of Parliament Sammy Mwaita and his Mogotio counterpart Hellen Sambili also lost in the primaries.

Prof Sambili lost to Dr Daniel Tuitoek by over 5,000 votes after gannering 6,015 against Tuitoek's 11,994 votes.

The Baringo Central MP on his part conceded defeat after losing to David Kerich who garnered 12,341 votes against Mwaita's 5,448.

In Koibatek Sub-County, all six Members of County Assembly were also shown the door in the primaries.

Mr Cheboi is the second Governor to be defeated in the nominations after Taita Taveta boss John Mruttu suffered a similar fate in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations last week.

Elsewhere in Kirinyaga, former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has taken an early lead in the governorship race against incumbent Joseph Ndathi.

According to results from 313 polling stations, Waiguru has so far garnered 102,927 votes against Ndathi's 19,078.
