'Bensouda' Wins Police Award

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has feted Pangani Traffic Police boss Jennifer Munyaani Mutuku, popularly known as ‘Bensouda.’

Bensouda, who matatu operators fear and respect in equal measure, was among 46 police officers recognised Thursday for their outstanding performance in the service.

Ms Munyaani, was nicknamed ‘Bensouda’ owing to her strict and tough mode of operation.

According to motorists, they likened her to International Criminal Court Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda because when she apprehends a motorist, the case ends up in court.

Also awarded were eight police stations across the country, which were praised for cleanliness, community policing and as best detention facilities.

They include: Othaya, Menengai and Kendu Bay police stations that were said to be the cleanest.

Athi River and Luanda police stations were named best in community policing, while Hola, Bura and Mogotio were voted the best detention centres.
