Boinnet Orders Arrest of Chase, National Bank Bosses

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has ordered the immediate arrest of six National Bank of Kenya (NBK) and two Ex-Chase Bank bosses, following the unearthing of unethical conduct by the banks.

The IG wants Munir Mohamed (Managing Director), Boniface Biko (Executive Director), George Jaba (Chief Credit Officer), Mohammed Abdalla (ICT Director), Wyclif Kivunira (Ag. Chief Finance Officer) and Chris Kisire (Chief Finance Officer) from NBK to be apprehended.

Boinnet has also directed that Chase bank's Zuffrullah Khan (Chairman) and Duncan Kabui (Group Managing Director) to avail themselves at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters in Nairobi before Friday 3.30pm or be arrested.

In a press statement, the police boss confirmed that security agents had one David Mukunzi Zawadi in custody, over misuse of social media by disseminating falsehoods about the banking sector.

Following the social media frenzy over Chase Bank alerts, Boinnet has cautioned members of the public to refrain from spreading unfounded rumours, hence causing unnecessary panic.

Chase bank caught many of its customer by surprise on Thursday morning after it was placed under receivership by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) for the next 12 months.

This caused panic with most of its clients flocking various ATMs and outlets to withdraw their money but were however disappointed after finding them closed.
