Boy Returning Home After 2 Years Arrested

Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy who disappeared for close to two years from their home in Mkororo village near Wundanyi town in Taita Taveta County.

The teenager was apprehended after resurfacing recently, with police now suspecting that he could have attended al shabaab training in Somalia.

The suspect, who is also a secondary school drop out, was nabbed when police led by Wundanyi Deputy OCS Christopher Lang'at raided their home following an alert from his parents.

His mother Pauline Kichoi said that the teenager left home unnoticed in September 2014, claiming he was going to Saudi Arabia, to search for job.

"We had earlier reported his disappearance to the police station. We also searched for him in local mines but in vain." Ms Kichoi was quoted by the Standard.

Police recovered from the teenager a mobile phone without a sim card and a bicycle.

A few days ago terror suspects escaped an anti-terror police raid at their home in Majengo, Mombasa County, leaving deadly weapons behind.

The suspects identified as Mahmoud Salim Mohamed and Hussein Omar were said to have been planning attacks on various parts in the Coastal region.

According to the Interior Ministry, G3 and M4 rifles, 345 bullets, 15 cellphones and a laptop were recovered during the operation.
