Orange Democratic Movement political activist Brian Otieno Weke was arrested on Friday night alongside 10 other people in relation to an assault incident that reportedly took place at T-Mall area in Nairobi.
Mr Weke is alleged to have attempted to kidnap Mbita Parliamentary Aspirant James Akali Agembe.
Akali, a Kisumu-based businessman was seeking to unseat Mbita Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo in the recently conducted ODM nominations.
He, however, lost after Ms Odhiambo emerged the winner in the nominations.
According to Mr Akali, he filed an appeal over what he termed as "massive irregularities" in the Monday nomination which prompted the assailants to launch an attack on him and his bodyguards.
"I suspect they had been tracking me. They were a group of about 10 men including Brian Weke. I had gone to withdraw some cash at the mall and as I came out, Weke drew a gun and questioned why I was giving Millie Odhiambo a hard time before his group attacked the three of us," Mr Akali claimed.
Akali managed to escape leaving his guards to fight with the attackers after which he called the police officers who responded swiftly and executed the arrests.
Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome confirmed that Mr Weke was among the 11 people who recorded statements at Lang’ata Police Station on Saturday in relation to the incident.
Mr Weke has been in ODM since 2013 when he contested for the Embakasi West Parliamentary seat but lost to incumbent George Theuri.
