Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula Denies Claims He Wants to Vie for Governor's Seat

Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula has denied claims that he is considering dropping his presidential bid to contest for the Governor’s seat in Bungoma.

In a statement sent on Sunday, Wetangula who is on a trip in Australia, dismissed the reports as rumours being spread by “mischievous and malicious persons”.

“As I near the end of my official tour in Australia, word has reached me that mischievous and malicious persons are circulating a rumour that I will be contesting the Bungoma gubernatorial seat.

"For the avoidance of doubt, may I state categorically that, I Moses Masika Wetang’ula, remains focused on contesting for the presidency of this country,” said Mr Wetang’ula.

At the same time, Ford Kenya secretary-general, Dr Eseli Simiyu, claimed that the “rumours” on Wetangula dropping his presidential bid originated from Jubilee cohorts in Bungoma.

Speculations have been rife that Mr Wetangula may opt to vie for the governor’s seat following his “unlikely” chances to clinch the opposition ticket for the presidency.

The Bungoma Senator has previously insisted that he should be the CORD flagbearer in the 2017 elections adding that he stands a better chance to trounce President Uhuru Kenyatta.
