Bungoma Taxi Operator and Touts Leaders Summoned After DP Ruto Was Heckled

Leaders of Bungoma taxi operators and touts were on Tuesday summoned by police following an incident where Deputy President William Ruto was heckled on Monday during his tour of the Western region.

Confirming the meeting, PSV operators chairman Osman Simiyu divulged that they were told to appear at the police station and explain why youth protested at Bungoma bus station compelling the DP to cancel his rally.

“Letters were sent to eight of us who include managers of the bus park. The OCPD said we should appear without fail," Simiyu disclosed.

According to sources, journalists were also told to stay away from the meeting since it was a closed-door meeting.

On Monday,  youth barricaded Bungoma bus stage and began chanting ODM slogans compelling Ruto’s motorcade to change route from the main Mumias road to Kanduyi town.

The rowdy youth said that they would not allow Ruto to address them claiming that he had not delivered his promises on developmental projects.

However, speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Ruto’s spokesman David Mugonyi strongly refuted the claims stating that the DP had not planned to visit Bungoma.

Mr Mugonyi further added, ''The DP went straight from Mumias Town to Kanduyi… We didn’t go to Bungoma town.”
