PHOTOS: Burnt Matatu to be Dumped at Raila's Office

The Matatu Owners Association (MOA) has found a new way to compel the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) to compensate them for damages caused during Monday's anti-IEBC protests.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, MOA chairman Simon Kimutai stated that they had resolved to dump shells of matatus burnt during the demos at CORD leader Raila Odinga's office in Upper Hill.

“We will take the matatu's at CORD's offices for them to see what their protests caused. We want them to see first hand but not in newspapers. They don't want to compensate us,” said Kimutai.

According to Mr Kimutai, they had resorted to the forceful bid after the Opposition remained adamant to compensate business owners whose establishments were looted amid the protests.

The chairman said that only the matatu's burnt in Nairobi would be taken to the CORD leader's office.

“We are not going to sit back and watch you destroy our livelihoods because you are demonstrating against an institution. We will position ourselves to defend our business and even our people,” Kimutai emphatically stated.

During the demonstrations calling for the disbandment of the IEBC, a section of protesters turned rowdy causing damage to property.

Two matatus were burnt in Nairobi while several others were vandalised in Kisumu, prompting the association to seek compensation for losses incurred.
