Cartel of Cops Terrorizing Motorists Nabbed by EACC

A swoop by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC), unearthed a cartel of police officers who had been charging motorists with fake traffic charges and fining them.

The officers were stationed round the Moi Avenue- Haille Selassie roundabout, within Nairobi's Central Business District.

Masters of intimidation, the officers had even set up a fake office along river road where they would take 'traffic offenders' who refused to pay up and threaten to revoke their driving licenses.

The Wednesday morning operation saw five officers get arrested and around 500 driving licenses recovered alongside a log book.

The items were found in the fake office.

The cartel allegedly demanded between Ksh 200 and Ksh 1000 from one driver per day in what was turning out to be quite the lucrative business.

A man hunt has been launched for one of the officers who got away, while the five were taken to EACC offices for questioning.
