Charity Ngilu, Governor Julius Malombe Clash at Ex-Mayor's Home in Kitui County

Former Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu and Kitui Governor Julius Malombe clashed on Saturday at the home of ex-mayor Martha Mwangangi in Mwembe Tayari village, Kitui County.

Ms Mwangangi was crushed to death by a county fire engine during mass protests in Kitui on Friday and the two leaders had gone to condole with the family

Trouble began when Ngilu lashed out at the Governor telling him that he should take full responsibility for the death of the ex-mayor.

Ngilu claimed that the former mayor was killed on purpose by the County vehicle adding that her survival was by a miracle.

“We cannot accept the killing of innocent residents under the watch of people who are determined to remain in office despite the cost,” Ms Ngilu said.

Malombe got furious with Ngilu and warned her not to provoke him or make unfounded allegations.

“I beseech you to stop making hasty accusations and allow police to conduct investigations,” the Governor warned.

The exchange got heated before the Governor got into his vehicle and sped off abandoning his earlier mission of speaking with the family.

The driver who caused the death, Mr John Nzuki, was arrested on Friday and will be arraigned in court on Monday.

Ms Ngilu has already declared that she will vie for the Kitui Gubernatorial seat and face the incumbent Malombe.

The deceased was a close friend to Ngilu.
