Chief Risks Jail Time for Protecting Man Who Burnt Minor Wife

Police in Mandera South have launched investigations into a case where a man allegedly beat up his 16 year old “wife” and severely burnt her, alongside a conspiracy to keep the crime hidden from the police.

Apart from the suspect who has since escaped, the area chief and his assistant might also be arrested for failing to report the incident which took place in January 7th this year.

The whole matter had been kept secret until a source close to the family disclosed it to a Maendeleo Ya Wanawake official.

On the day of the incident, the suspect Sharif Issack Abdulla is said to have beaten his minor wife unconscious before burning her with hot charcoal.

According to The Star the victim, who is currently admitted at the Mandera General Hospital needs reconstructive surgery.

The hospital however, cannot airlift her to Nairobi where the medical procedure is accessible as the doctors do not have access to the required documentation, the victim being a minor.
