Chief of Staff Released After Attempting to Bribe Sonko

Nairobi County Chief of Staff George Wainaina was released on Tuesday on a Sh800,000 cash bail or Sh2 Million bond.

The bail was increased from Sh500,000 to Sh800,000 after the court reconsidered four counts of corruption that he was charged with.

Mr Wainaina denied the charges of conspiring and offering a Sh1 Million bribe to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, before he was apprehended on Wednesday in an undercover operation by Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) officials.

Wainaina together with his secretary Roselyne Oluoch, allegedly tried to cover up illegal sale of a land in Loresho, Nairobi, by attempting to silence Sonko on the matter.

The Chief of Staff  also failed to appear in court on Friday after he supposedly fell sick on Thursday and was admitted at Karen Hospital. In his ruling, Principal Magistrate Felix Kombo said the defence lawyer should submit medical reports or be arrested.
