Two children fell into a pit latrine and drowned after heavy rains pounded Lwala Village in Bondo Sub-county on Monday evening.
The children, aged five and three, had gone to fetch firewood near the pit when they slipped on the mud and fell into the pit latrine.
Family members attempted to rescue the children when their sister Emmaculate alerted them, but their efforts bore no fruit.
Deputy County Commissioner, Samson Akatch, said bodies of the deceased were successfully retrieved and taken to the Bondo Sub-county Hospital mortuary.
The Commissioner urged parents to supervise their children at all times due to the danger posed by the ongoing El Nino rains.
