Cholera Outbreak; 9 Die in Nakuru, 30 Admitted in Nairobi

30 people from Kibera slum in Nairobi have been admitted in hospital following an outbreak of cholera.

According to the Public Health Department, most of them are from Laini Saba and have been admitted in Mbagathi sub County Hospital.

Lang’ata Public Health Officer James Mwita attributed the outbreak to contaminated drinking water, with the affected people living near the heavily polluted Nairobi River.

In Nakuru County 9 people have died since the outbreak on Monday. 18 patients are still at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital.

11 people have been admitted with the disease in Mombasa County.

Residents have been advised to go to hospital as soon as they notice cholera symptoms
