City Politician's Property Destroyed Over Sh37.4 Million Debt

The Nairobi County Government on Thursday pulled down billboards belonging to a city politician due to arrears amounting to Sh37.4 Million.

County askaris conducted a crackdown in Westlands area where they removed billboards belonging to former Nairobi Women Representative aspirant Esther Passaris.

According to City Hall, the unspecified number of billboards erected by Ms Passari's company, Adopt-A-Light, have arrears dating back to December 2014.

Adopt-A-Light, an outdoor advertising company, has additional 386 lamp poles across the city.

The crackdown by the County Government is part of an initiative to recover unpaid rates.

Other advertising agencies that owe the County Government include Magnet Ventures Limited (Sh35.2 Million), while Tangerine Investment has a debt of Sh12.76 Million from lamp pole adverts and Sh993,903 from the billboards

To avoid future defaulting, county officials stated that they would now insist on upfront payments for all outdoor advertisements.
