CORD MPs Locked Up With Suspected Terrorists

Busia lawmaker Florence Mutua has disclosed that they were locked up with suspected terrorists at Muthaiga Police Station.

Speaking a day after being released by the Milimani High Court, Ms Mutua revealed that in the cell, where she was detained alongside Kilifi Women Representative Aisha Jumwa, they found two ladies being held for terrorism charges.

The lawmaker stated that upon arriving at the Station at 9pm on Tuesday, they were locked up in a scary room that had no lights. Inside the cell, they engaged with the two Muslim ladies who gave them a leso to cover themselves.

On her part, Jumwa has now offered to extend a helping hand to the Station by paying for renovation of the cells to ensure that those locked up in future 'enjoy' their stay.

“I will go back to Muthaiga and pay for the refurbishment of the floor of the cell where I spent three days, so that the next ‘guests’ can stay in a dignified place,” Jumwa was quoted by the Standard.

According to Ms Mutua, one of the officers gave them a blanket which they used as a shield against the cold weather during their short period as guests of the state.

Despite complaining of the low level of cleanliness in the holdings, the two lawmakers acknowledged that they at least had access to a tap with running water and an inbuilt toilet.

While the two were spending time at Muthaiga, six other legislators were grappling with filthy conditions at Pangani Police Station.

The MPs revealed that they had to use a bucket as a lavatory and went for long hours without food despite some of them being under medication.
