County to Launch Hunt For Tanzanian 'Beggars' - MCA

A Nakuru Member of County Assembly (MCA) announced that the County Government would launch a hunt for Tanzanians who were conning oblivious residents by acting like beggars.

Esther Njeri was speaking at Naivasha Police Headquarters after a Tanzanian man was caught using his 6-year-old daughter to solicit money from passers-by through acting like a lame child.

“He is taking advantage of such a young child...Kenyans have practically fundraised for him,” said the MCA.

Ms Njeri said the man covered his daughter with a cloth, then forced her to pretend she was disabled.

In his defence, the accused stated that he was collecting cash to take his daughter to Nairobi.

The Nominated MCA vented that cases of disabled persons being dumped on the streets of Naivasha were high, therefore creating a need for the County Government to intervene.

“We have come to learn that some foreigners from a neighbouring country are using minors and disabled persons to solicit funds from members of the public,” she said.

She further urged the Tanzanian Government to act on the high rate at which disabled persons were making there way into Kenya from their country.

Attempts by Kenyans.co.ke to reach the Nakuru County Government for a statement on the matter however proved futile.
