Bomet County staff have been barred from using or accessing social media sites during working hours. In a circular sent to all Heads of Department and Directors, the staff were also ordered to refrain from commenting on posts regarding the County Government.
The directive, reportedly signed by County Secretary Kielson Mutai, stated that the Bomet Government had its mechanisms of handling county issues on social media, therefore staff should focus on their jobs.
“It has been noted with concern that a number of staff engage in social media during official working hours. You are therefore advised that the County Government has its own mechanisms of handling government matters that arise on social media,” reads the letter.
Elsewhere in the same county, a medical technician was fired from a hospital after going to work drunk. Chief Health Officer Benard Sawek told the press on Thursday that Wesley Kirui went against the code of ethics and aspirations of the county government.
“This is a serious case that amounts to violation of the contract that we cannot tolerate. We have had some instances where patients complain they are given wrong doses and we have been investigating it for a while now. Today we can report that the staff’s contract has been terminated,” Sawek said.
Mr Kirui who worked at Longisa County Referral Hospital, allegedly mixed laboratory results and gave wrong prescriptions while intoxicated.
