Couple Arrested in Marakwet for Poisoning their 2 Children

Residents of Embobut village in Marakwet woke up to grief after a couple conspired and poisoned their two children in unclear circumstances.

Police suspect that Nelly Bowen and Harrison Bowen gave their two children aged four and six, an unknown poisonous substance on Tuesday evening.

One of the children, Noel Jepchirchir aged 4 died while 6-year old Jerotich Bowen, who survived the incident, is recuperating at Kapsowar Mission Hospital.

The couple has been arrested and is helping police with investigations.

The body of the four-year-old was taken for autopsy to reveal the poison.

Markwet East police boss Anthony Muriuki confirmed the incident stating that police were interrogating the couple to establish the motive and the poison used.

Upon completion of investigations, the couple will be charged with murder.

Cases of children being murdered have been on the rise in the country.

Last week, the body of a five-year-old boy was found dumped by the roadside in Gilgil.

The boy was allegedly strangled using a wire and his genitals bruised by the murderer.
