Demos Paralyzes Transport Along Nakuru- Eldoret Highway

Transport remained paralyzed for hours along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway after residents in Salgaa held demonstrations on the road.

The angry protesters accused the Nakuru County Government of failing to build parking lanes for trucks.

They accused the area governor Kinuthia Mbugua of denying them development calling for his removal from office.

The Nation reports that police officers were left helpless as the demonstrators lit up old tyres along the road.

Reports indicate that boulders along a four-kilometer stretch of the road by the protesters forced long-distance trucks to grind to a halt and leading to a heavy traffic jam on both sides of the road.

The situation escalated as the residents set on fire a fire engine belonging to the county government, The Standard reports.

Locals shut down their business premises for fear of looting and destruction of property.
