Deputy President In A New Sh28 Billion Scandal

Deputy president William Ruto has once again hit the headlines, this time over allegations of being involved in a Sh28 billion hospital scam.

Nairobi businessman Herbert Ojwang appearing before the National Assembly Public Investments Committee (PIC) Thursday, claimed there is a plot to fleece taxpayers Sh11 billion in a deal involving the set up of a new referral hospital in Eldoret at cost of Sh28 billion.

Ojwang claims Ruto pushed the Board of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH)  in Eldoret, to abandon the refurbishment and upgrade of the hospital at a cost of Sh17 billion for a new project involving construction of a new hospital at a cost of Sh28 billion.

According to Ojwang the design and drawings of the Ruto-backed project are the same as those that would have been used in the Sh17 billion refurbishment project that he was leading.

Dr John Kibosia the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer asked Ojwang' to withdraw from the deal to pave way for a Mr Caleb Kositany and that Ruto had directed that a new hospital be built at a new site, the People Daily reports.

The business man tabled before the investments committee an audio recording where the DP gave instructions that the project be moved fast and concluded before the next fiscal year.
