Deputy President William Ruto to visit Bomet After Elders Endorse Governor Isaac Rutto as Spokesman

Deputy President (DP) William Ruto has been forced to schedule a visit to his political home turf after Kipsigis elders announced their full support for Governor Isaac Ruto.

Ruto, who was in Bomet last week, will visit the region on Saturday to calm tension and anxiety that arose after Kipsigis Elders met and endorsed Governor Ruto as their spokesman.

The DP is expected to drum up support for the Jubilee Party in the region that voted overwhelmingly for him and President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2013 elections.

He is also expected to launch the tarmacking of Teganda-Aisaik and Leldaet-Kapmusa roads in Bomet Central.

Bomet Central Member of Parliament Ronald Tonui, while speaking to a local daily, indicated that it was a privilege to host the DP and urged people to attend the meeting.

“It is a great privilege for us to have the DP visit us. We are urging everyone to attend the rally,” Tonui stated.

Meanwhile, Governor Ruto’s aide Mr Kiprotich Samoei indicated that the DP's meeting was of no value to them as they will be attending a different rally in Narok South.

Governor Ruto was elected on a United Republican Party(URP) ticket in 2013 but later defected and formed his party Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) after disagreeing with the government on revenue allocation to counties.

He will be battling for the governor's seat with National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso, National Water Conservation Chairman Julius Kones and a Mr Stephen Mutai who are all seeking the Jubilee ticket

The Bomet Governor's CCM party is yet to announce the presidential candidate and coalition that they will support in the August elections.
