Details of Uhuru's Meeting with Cabinet Secretaries Who Wanted to Resign

President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to have held a private meeting with Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) who intended to resign from his government strictly warning them against doing so.

In a meeting held with Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery, Devolution's Mwangi Kiunjuri and Eugene Wamalwa (Water), the President reportedly warned that he would not support them if they vied for political offices.

“The president was clear that he would not endorse or support any of them,” stated a source privy to the meeting.

During the short meeting which took place on January 14, Kenyatta is said to have insisted that he needed the Ministers to continue implementing the various initiatives of his administration.

He firmly maintained that they should shelve their political ambitions and concentrate on their work until his term ends.

“During the meeting, Uhuru was clear that he wanted the CSs in government to continue implementing the Jubilee manifesto and service delivery,” the Standard reports.

Kiunjuri had declared interest in vying for Laikipia gubernatorial seat in the August 8 General Election while Wamalwa was said to be eyeing the Trans Nzoia one.

However, it was not clear why Nkaissery was part of the meeting given that he had not announced an intention to run for any political position.

The Devolution CS has since withdrawn his candidature stating that he had been "given an order" and would continue serving in the government.
