Drama as Rowdy Youth Attack Governor

Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong was on Monday attacked by angry youth at Busibwabo in Matayos Constituency, after allegedly failing to address crucial issues affecting the County.

The dramatic event was sparked by a farmer who attempted to get the attention of Mr Ojaamong, but was instead slapped by one of the Governor's security personnel.

The mob got angry and gave the Governor an ultimatum to address the construction of Busia Sugar Industry, which according to them would be the “biggest industry in the county”.

"We expected him to come here and order the factory to resume construction but he has not done so," said Shaban Wandera, a farmer

The farmers claimed that the construction of the factory had stalled severally after five court orders were taken to stop its development.

"We read mischief from the Governor since three factories in Teso are ongoing without interruption why just this one of Matayos," said Mr Wandera as quoted by the Standard.

Governor Ojaamong assured the farmers that his legal team would ensure the latest court order was lifted and development resumed to avoid scaring away investors.

"We are giving them three days to ensure the factory resumes construction or else we stage a historic demonstration never witnessed before," said Lucas Wakuloba, a Member of the County's Assembly.

The scuffle left two members of the Governor's staff injured.
