Evans Kidero Likely to Remain Nairobi Governor, Opinion Poll

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero is still the people’s preferred candidate for the City gubernatorial seat in the forthcoming elections, an opinion poll by Infotrak has revealed.

The poll sampled 800 respondents, with a margin of error of +/-3.5% and was conducted between March 18 and 19.

Kidero was first with 35.3%, Senator Mike Sonko 23% and Peter Kenneth came in third with 20.2%. Miguna Miguna, Margaret Wanjiru, Esther Passaris and Dennis Waweru got 1.2%, 0.9%, 0.7% and 0.6% respectively.

18% of the voters still remained undecided.

The Nairobi Governorship race seems to heat up by the day as the aspirants continue to trade barbs with Sonko recently causing an uproar after referred to Kenneth as, “...an albino or whatever.”

Those sentiments landed him in trouble and he was forced to apologise by the Albinism Society of Kenya chairman, Isaac Mwaura, who termed his utterances unacceptable for a leader of his calibre.

“It is totally uncalled for to use our condition in derogatory terms in order to settle political scores. Mr Sonko should know that persons with albinism are Kenyans too and have a right to be elected to any office,” said an agitated Mwaura.

Sonko had earlier revealed in a television interview that his differences with Kenneth were personal and he vowed not to accept him as his running mate on grounds of disrespect, citing the 2013 general election when the former Gatanga Member of Parliament went head to head with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He further accused the former Presidential aspirant of using derogatory language against him and demanded an apology.

Miguna had no kind words for Sonko and took to his twitter handle to express his disgust.

"I've just watched the most disgraceful TV interview between the primitive Mike Sonko and [host Hussein] Mohamed. How low can the cartel media go?" he tweeted.

Kidero, on the other hand, has kept a low profile though he also made a controversial statement during an interview saying Nairobi should not be run by ‘ben-10s’ and ‘cougars’.

The Nairobi gubernatorial race is set to go down to the wire and it remains to be seen who among the contestants will have what it takes to convince residents of the city.
